Similarly to yesterday, we each went about our assigned tasks. Rashmi and Lily prepped for their trip to Yumbe on Thursday, and Mariam and Aayush started working on an Op-Ed Post based off last week’s experience. Hopefully, we’ll see this on RAHU’s website very soon! For Yumbe, Doreen asked Rashmi and Lily to prepare a Powerpoint presentation on how to use social media, and what are appropriate ways to communicate with others.
After lunch, we had our intern photoshoot with Kasule, RAHU’s photographer. He took us in a nearby field and we had individual and group pictures taken of us for RAHU’s page. It was really hot out since it was already midday, but the lighting was great, and the photos came out beautifully! It will be really nice for us to have some professional pictures of ourselves and some high quality group shots to use for our own social media or website.
When we came back inside, Bashir called a meeting for the interns and explained that tomorrow, we will be expected to go on another school visit with some peer educators. Mariam, Rashmi, and Aayush will be going on an outreach to Spire High School to work with about 150 high school students; the discussion will be focused on relationships. Lily will be going with the 2 UK interns, Karis and Erin, to discuss drug and substance abuse. In preparation for this activity, we all made lesson plans detailing the work that we will be doing tomorrow, the topics we will be covering, and some potential icebreakers and games.
After a long, productive day at the office, we headed home together, stopping at the supermarket at the bottom of our road to grab more water and some snacks for the apartment. For dinner tonight, we decided to stay in and cook! Rashmi and Mariam worked on sauteing some fresh vegetables and making pasta with pesto. We mixed the vegetables in with the pasta and pesto and it turned out to be the best meal we’ve cooked for ourselves so far! We also had some fresh spinach in the refrigerator, so we sauteed it in a saucepan by itself as well. After dinner, we broke out the mango ice cream we had grabbed at the grocery store that afternoon and it ended up being reeeeally yummy! Kind of similar to the taste of a mango lassi. We are all looking forward to our peer educating sessions tomorrow, especially because it will be Mariam and Aayush’s first!
