Aayush and Mariam’s Perspective: Mbarara Day 6

After a long week of getting up early and getting back late, the team had the first opportunity to sleep in. We got up around 10 am and head out for the journey back to Kampala. After eating at a restaurant in Mbarara (with real black coffee!!), we left to go back home. We extended the 5 hour journey to hit a couple of attractions along the way. We stopped at a traveler’s stop along the route to try corn roasted with traditional Ugandan spices. Numerous sellers approached us trying to make us overpay for basic items that we really didn’t need while calling us “Mzungu” (Lugandan for “white person”). While it was funny at first, it got pretty old really quick. We also stopped at the Ugandan equator. Besides getting some cool pictures here, we experimented with the hemispheres. If standing in the Northern hemisphere, water will spin clockwise but counterclockwise in the Southern hemisphere. If standing directly at the equator (i.e. exactly equal distances from the Northern and Southern poles), water will not spin in any direction and go straight down. After leaving the equator, we went straight for our suites as Aayush had an online interview. The night ended pretty quickly after that as we were both exhausted from the travel day and the entire week of work. Can’t wait to start work at the office next week!
